![]() Indie rock used to sound very tight and bright - think Vampire Weekend. After utilising synths for Salad Days’ Chamber of Reflection, synths took on a much bigger role for the 2017 album This Old Dog, with several synth-only tracks. I am not saying it wasn’t done before or that its somehow some uncovered relic to wow the modern world, but this song was “new” to a lot of kids and young adults who had grown up only listening to highly produced pop. A synth line from track was sampled from Shigeo Sekitos 'The World II ( / ).' 796 song Boost. the single is heavier than the other songs on the album. Seeing it live was mind-blowing, a perfect way to end a wild set. I think it’s important to consider the context that this song released in - the indie, recorded at home, vintage boom hadn’t really gone mainstream yet, and I think this album helped push this imperfect, old-yet-new sound to the forefront of the indie rock world. ![]() ![]() Friend introduced me to him via Rock and Roll Nightclub and This Old Dog released as I graduated and moved to Philly from Arizona and is one of my favorite albums…anyways now that you know all about me and my history with Mac I can talk about Chamber of Reflection Happy to talk about this as I was a Mac-head in college.
