With 800$ saved, you could go to may places to find a beach with water entry and eat in town. Coz., never had an issue getting a ground floor adjoining room the 5 times we went there. One big plus was the adjoining rooms at Ib. Lettuce! If you want half decent food then stay over on the Playa de Carmen side, Iberostars over there were much better for food, with a great selection of restaurants to choose from. ![]() Overall, don't eat anything that is difficult to clean, ie. That is an issue we never had with Iberostar, however, it could have just been the luck of the draw. My daughter is being tested for some kind of food borne bacteria/parasite that she would have picked up at Allegro at Xmas, coming up to 24 days of stomach issues. As far as food goes, our family has enjoyed Iberostar's food over the years, but food at the AIs on Cozumel is never fantastic. Maintenance was a very big issue at Allegro, same company as the Grand. Will chock it up to possible staffing issues with having just re-opened in November and being absolute high season. Not sure if things are better at the Grand but we went to Allegro over the Xmas break, it was horrible. To the north there is a slight gap in the ironstone shore but the water entry is not anywhere near the same as the piece of beach that the grand/allegro sits on. Walking on the beach to the south is still rocky. You can ask for a roll away bed at Iberostar to separate three kids if they don't want to share beds. They are older and have never been kids club type kids. Iberostars beach is very rocky and you need to enter off the dock but that kept our kids very busy snorkelling much of the day and looking at tidal pools other parts of the day. Its been coming up to three years since Iberostar so I can't speak to quality right now, but set up is the same at both. We've stayed at the Iberostar and Allegro with three kids, now teenagers. I will never return to another Iberostar. ![]() I would however take my chances at the Grand knowing to keep my expectations low. Neither resort is that great.I have stayed at the Grand and had wonderful service with the next time being horrible. I have never taken kids to either resort ,I cannot comment on that. The Iberostar does have a swimup bar in their main pool. ![]() The Iberostar has a nice place to relax on the beach with plenty of chairs and shade. the Grand definitely has a very nice walk in beach. Service is pretty much serve yourself or go without. The room was small with the bathroom even smaller.įood was better at the Iberostar IF you don't mind having cats dining with you closed up in the main buffet. Iberostar- Between the rotten boards on our second floor balcony and dodging the leak over our first floor room toilet I am not sure which is worse. Rooms are definitely better at the Grand.
